I love listening to music while I write. It helps get me in the mood and sets the tone for my stories. Here are a few songs that remind me of the characters in my novel The Crown of Bones.
I love the eerie and violent sound of this song which fits my setting perfectly. Some of the lyrics remind me of my protagonist, Gisela, while other parts are more fitting for my villain, Hexegot.
My favorite lyrics:
"You say Come over baby I think you're pretty I'm okay I'm not your baby If you think I'm pretty
You should see me in a crown"
The acoustic version of this song is so beautiful and haunting, which fits the tone of my novel. The lyrics to this song remind me of Brahm's strong love for Gisela and the fact that he has always seen her as a goddess. Similar to the lyrics in the song, Brahm at one point in the story says to Gisela, "Let me worship you."
My favorite lyrics:
"If I'm a pagan of the good times My lover's the sunlight To keep the Goddess on my side She demands a sacrifice"
This song is much more upbeat than the previous two, but I love it when thinking about the adventure my characters must go on.
My favorite lyrics:
"Oh, through the wilderness How come even together there can be loneliness? Oh, our heart's a mess But it's our only defense to brave the wilderness"
This sweet and adorable song gives me all the romantic feels for my love interests!
My favorite lyrics:
"We've come so far from so much space between if only I could wake from this dream I would love you for all of your days I'd kiss you in so many ways I'd be your stars and you'd be my little moon"
I've loved this song for so long! It is a beautiful song that can help put me in the mood for the bittersweet moments along my characters' adventure.
My favorite lyrics:
"Sometimes flowers grow in the soil of ashes Pick 'em as you go down Goodbye Road We made our home down Goodbye Road"
You should really listen to every song by this group because they are all wonderful. I love the relaxing sound and romantic lyrics of this song. It is the perfect song for writing the heartbreaking scenes in my novel.
My favorite lyrics:
"Even when everything was gone Even when I got lonely I never thought that we were wrong Even with just your memory"
For my last song, we'll leave on an upbeat note! This is a super fun song that reminds me of Brahm every time I hear it.
My favorite lyrics:
"I'm so sorry that my timing's off But I can't move on if we're still gonna talk Is it wrong for me to not want half? I want all of you, all the strings attached"
I hope you enjoyed this list of songs that remind me of my setting, characters, or simply put me in the writing mood!
